wELCOME TO GURU GOPINATH NATIONAL DANCE MUSEUM

  • Guru Gopinath Natanagramam is a cultural institution functioning under the Department of Culture, Government of Kerala, started in 1994. This institution, named after the late Dr. Guru Gopinath, a pioneer reformer of Kathakali dance, was established on land in Vattiyoorkavu,m a suburb of Thiruvananthapuram, donated by viswakalakendram, a dance centre founded by Guruji.

    • The Guru Gopinath Natanagramam has been established as a centre for learning, training and research in various Indian dance forms, particularly Keralanatanam, the dance form composed by the maestro Guru Gopinath. Pioneering the training and development of the Keralanatanam style of dancing, promotion of all Indian classical and folk dance forms, to co-operate with the Central academies, universities, state academies and other institutions and association for the furtherance of the development and enrichment of Indian Culture as whole especially in the field of Indian dances, to promote research in the field of dance and to establish a library and a museum for the purpose and organising dance festivals are the main objects of the institution. It will also conducts free training programme for the needy and talent students.

  • The institution stated that they conducted classes on Keralanatanam, other forms of dances like Ottanthullal, Bharathanatyam and Mohiniyattam and music instrumental classes like Veena, Violin, Mridangam, Tabala, Keyboard and classical music (vocal).

  • The Institution have a well established Dance Troup. The troup have been performed dance programmes in different stages including Onam festival and Central-State institution’s functions. Starting the Sree Rama Pattabhishekam ballet and play the ballet in different stages.

FACILITIES

BRIEFING HALL

The first part of the Museum is a briefing hall where the visitors will be briefed about the Museum. From the Briefing Hall, visitors will be guided to the wax Museum which will host life size statuettes the of dance maestros in full costume.

5D THEATRE

5D theatre will have short 5D movies on various dance forms shown at periodic intervals and the succeeding live demonstration hall will host short live performance at regular intervals. There are open verandas where displays can be arranged to connect the story
